Red Sox rookie Andrew Benintendi hasn’t even played 20 big-league games, and he’s already making a huge impact.
He also may have pulled off the catch of the season.
During the eighth inning of Monday’s game against the Rays, Benintendi chased down Steven Souza Jr.’s deep fly ball to left field and leaped up against the wall to rob Souza of a sure home run.
To make an already-spectacular catch even better, Benintendi almost went over the wall. He managed to stop himself from flipping over the fence. There was nothing easy about the catch.
The catch brought the entire crowd (albeit very Boston friendly) to its feet.
Take a bow, rookie. What a catch.
