Ball boy's diving effort couldn't stop a foul ball from hitting Oakland ...

We have to give it to this ball boy — he really tried. But sometimes, the simple demonstration of effort doesn’t quite cut it.
A’s pitcher Chris Smith would certainly agree.
During the sixth inning of Monday’s game in Oakland, Jefry Marte scorched a foul ball down the left-field line. Since the A’s play in theworst stadium in baseball, ball boys are tasked with providing the bullpen’s only protection. This ball boy knew that Marte’s foul ball was headed straight for the bullpen, so he dove at full extension to save the Oakland pen.

He missed.
The ball took a deflection off the ball boy’s glove, hit the wall and ricocheted to hit Smith on the head. He was not pleased.

Smith threw his towel in disgust and gave the ballboy a playful staredown. Smith would be OK. No word on the ball boy.
