Check out this awesome play Addison Russell made

With two outs and the bases loaded in the Cubs’ win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Pirates batter Gregory Polanco lifted a bloop into short left field that appeared certain to drop out of reach of all three Chicago defenders charging for the play — a “Bermuda Triangle” base hit. But one of those Chicago defenders happened to be young shortstop Addison Russell, and Russell covers a ton of ground.

According to Statcast, Russell covered 106.8 feet with a 98.5% route efficiency to make the play.

Russell hasn’t yet hit as well as some of the Majors’ other great young shortstops like Corey Seager, Carlos Correa, Francisco Lindor and Xander Bogaerts, but he provides a ton of value with his glove. He’s probably the NL’s second best defender at short behind the wizardly Brandon Crawford of the Giants, so he’s already a very good player at age 22. And the improvement Russell has showed at the plate between his 2015 rookie season and this one suggests he could soon emerge as a full-blown superstar.
Teammate Matt Szczur is impressed.
