Chris Iannetta thought he had struck out in the sixth inning of Wednesday’s game against the Rangers. He did not strike out. He walked.
The confusion all started after Iannetta checked his swing on a 3-2 pitch from Martin Perez. Home plate umpire Todd Tichenor signaled to first base for help, but Iannetta thought he had been called out and quickly turned to make his way toward the dugout.
But really, it wasn’t a strike, and Iannetta had to be stopped from entering the dugout. He was surprised to learn that he was granted the walk and had a conversation with Tichenor who pointed towards first base.
The whole ordeal was way more complicated than it should have been, but Iannetta took his base. It didn’t make much of a difference though, as the Rangers won 14-1.
