In a Class AAA game between the Las Vegas 51s and the El Paso Chihuahuas on Thursday night, Las Vegas batter Eric Campbell cued a ball off the end of the bat that bounced about 10 feet into foul ground. But physics sometimes makes no sense whatsoever, and in this particular case, whatever physics stuff was operating on this baseball caused it to entirely shift its momentum, take a hard left turn and roll back into fair territory.
El Paso Chihuahuas @epchihuahuas
We’ve never seen anything like this… but an out is an out.
What’s fun about the video — besides its ability to restore your capacity for wonder, of course — is how the turn clearly shocked every single person involved. Both the umpire and pitcher Eric Yardley scramble to get into position once they realize the ball is going to wind up fair, and one angle shows that even the bat boy got totally duped.
Wacky stuff, kids. Blows your freakin’ mind.
