A thrilling end to the California-Tennessee Little League World Series game on Tuesday. But unfortunately for California, they came out on the wrong side of it.

With the game tied 2-2 with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, California hit into what should have been a routine double play, but an errant throw allowed one of the two runners on base to advance (the other was forced out at third).

It looked like he would, too, only for him to be thrown out at home by the narrowest of margins. Officials reviewed the play afterwards but concluded the initial call was, in fact, correct.

Tennessee went on to win the game 4-2 thanks in large part to a solo home run in the seventh inning, stoking much debate about the play. Some pointed to the Little League’s differing rules that made it harder for California to score.

Others said poor base-running was to blame.

Let the debate rage on, but in any case, let’s all just rejoice that the correct call was made.
